Islamiah Women’s Arts and Science College is a self-financing college, established in 1997 with the aim of imparting higher Education for Women. The Institution is Maintained and Managed by Vaniyambadi Muslim Educational Society (VMES), Vaniyambadi. The College is approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu and recognized by UGC, u/s 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956. It is permanently affiliated with Thiruvalluvar University.
The College extends across 9.9 acres of blush green in the heart of Vaniyambadi town with a student strength of 2171. The college offers 16 Under Graduate, 7 Post Graduate, 3 M.Phil and 3 Ph.D Programmes.
The college was accredited by the NAAC in 2019 with ‘B’ Grade.
The College has established state of the art laboratories, ICT enabled class rooms, Seminar Halls, Multipurpose Auditorium, Central library, Sports and Games facilities.
The Muhammadan Educational Conference founded by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in 1886 to organize Annual conferences to promote Education among Indian Muslims held its 15th session at Chennai in 1901 inspiring Muslims of Vaniyambadi to establish the Vaniyambadi Muhammadan Educational Society (VMES) and a school Madrasa E Islamiah on 26 August 1903 with two teachers and three students. This society established in 1903 and registered in 1905 is providing quality education to rural students by establishing one institution after another. The elementary school established in 1903 bloomed in to a full-fledged High School in 1912 which was followed by establishment of Islamiah College in 1919, Islamiah Girls School in 1957, Islamiah Industrial Training Institute in 1984, Islamiah Women’s College in 1997 and Islamiah Skill Development Centre in 2018. With these institutions VMES has realized the dreams of its founding fathers like Janab T.Hajee Badruddin Sahib, Janab Malang Hayath Batcha Sahib, Janab T.Ameenuddin Sahib and Janab Malang Ahmed Batcha Sahib.
The VMES started a high school for girls in 1957. Growing in popularity and driven by the desire of public, the school blossomed into a full fledged college for Women. Thus was started Islamiah Women’s Arts and Science College in 1997, affiliated to University of Madras, in the premises of Islamiah Girls Higher Secondary School, Vaniyambadi. Now, it is functioning in its own premises at Bypass Road, Vaniyambadi, and this was the first Women’s College in this region.
Late Janab Kaka Mohamed Zubair Sahib played a pivotal role in establishing the Women’s College deserves high praise and recognition for his valuable contribution.
